This started with a vet bill.
One of our cats stopped drinking from her fountain and we did not notice. The plastic basin had built up a film in the seams that no brush could reach, and she quietly stopped going near it. We found out three weeks later, in an emergency room, looking at a bill for a urinary blockage.
The product was not badly made. It was made by people who had never had to clean one for two years. That is the whole difference, and it is the only thing we are trying to get right.

What we do before anything ships
Six weeks in our own home.
Every prototype lives with our four cats for six weeks. Not a demo unit on a desk — the real thing, getting used and getting dirty.
We clean it ourselves, every week, for those six weeks.
Most product problems do not show up on day one. They show up in month two, in a seam you cannot reach.
Food-grade 304 stainless steel wherever water or food touches.
Not "stainless-look" plastic. If a part cannot go in a dishwasher, we redesign it or we do not sell it.
We write down who each product is wrong for.
Every product page has a section telling you when not to buy it. A returned product costs us money; a cat with the wrong gear costs you more.
Where we are now
Six products. We would rather make six things we can defend than sixty we cannot.
